2) Library Director

 

JOB TITLE:                                        Library Branch Director

REPORTS TO:                                   City Administrator and works collaboratively with Owatonna Library Director

DIRECTLY SUPERVISES:                Library Techs 1 and 2

SALARY RANGE:                             $24.53 -$ 30.77 (7-Year Step Pay Scale)

Nature of Work

Provide library service to all patrons.  Does programming for children’s services.  In charge of City of Blooming Prairie Library and its day-to-day operation.

Specific Job Duties (Essential Functions and Responsibilities):

  • Directs Library operations and provides leadership and implementation for strategic planning
  • Promotes the importance of library programs and services throughout the community, and in collaboration with the Owatonna Library
  • Directs personnel management within the library, including assisting in recruitment, evaluation, development, mentoring, and retention of staff
  • Assists in the Preparation of the department budget and maintains compliance with City policies and MN library laws
  • Demonstrates awareness of emerging technologies and trends in libraries
  • Manages library collections, programs, and services using assessment tools to inform changes and in collaboration with the Owatonna Library.
  • Works collaboratively with library staff and the Owatonna Library to promote the delivery of strong customer service
  • This is a working position and the director works at service desks, including occasional evening and weekend rotations

Examples of work:

  • Reception/telephone and operation at information desk
  • Creates School projects -Fill requests from educators
  • Register new patrons
  • Collect fines and fees, Call patrons regarding overdue materials
  • Reserve materials
  • Maintain library materials, equipment, and supplies
  • Repair or withdraw books
  • Sorting and shelving of materials
  • Prepare work schedules
  • Assist in hire of part-time help and provide training
  • Promote library services through media and community outreach
  • Conduct weekly children’s story time program and summer reading program
  • Arranges Book Clubs (In library, nursing home, & assisted living)
  • Liaison with the Blooming Prairie Friends of the Library
  • Perform other tasks as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.  BA or BS Degree preferably in Elementary Education with a minor in Library Science
  • 2 years of progressively responsible library work (will consider a combination of library work and education to meet equivalent)
  • Demonstrated success in program planning and implementation
  • Demonstrates knowledge of, sensitivity to, and ability to work effectively with, the educational needs of individuals and groups with a diverse range of identities, cultures, backgrounds, and abilities
  • Evidence of responsiveness to and understanding of cultural diversity of, including students with different abilities (e.g., physical and or learning).
  • Demonstrated commitment to honesty, efficacy, and collaboration.
  • Commitment to professional development

 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preferred a master’s degree in library science from an accredited program
  • Experience providing library services
  • Experience working in rural settings

3) Position Title: Part-Time Police Officer

Salary: $21.16 – $27.32 

Application Deadline: Accepting until position is filled 

The City of Blooming Prairie is accepting applications for the position of a part-time police officer. Salary range is $21.16 - $27.32/hr. Applicants must meet the minimum selection standards set by MN POST Board and be licensed or eligible to be licensed by the date of hire.

This position will work mainly afternoon/evening shifts as well as weekends and holidays. There are no scheduled part time hours. Part time officers cover sick and vacation days as well as holidays.
